JUNE ROSEBOWL

LizComment
Some things of interest seen at the Rosebowl - I am usually too preoccupied people-watching and shopping to take photos, but here's a few:

Chuckie - I guess he's officially "vintage" now since Child's Play came out in 1988. I like his hair - looks like he got a body wave, it's usually flatter as I remember it.
I'm not really a pancho-wearer but I liked this particular one a lot.The patch guy is one of my favorite vendors, he's got it all.All-over crazy sequin jacket.Cool table top made out of a reclaimed bowling alley.Lips phone - obviously, I love. That other one is rad, too.American flag pants, everyone's so into the red, white & blue right now.Skater dude stuff.Satin jacket by Catherine Malandrino, pretty neat.Weird bird house made out of an old riding boot.RTX sighting, Jennifer Herrema giving an interview and shopping for crazy outfits probably....and drinking a Bud Light - my kind of girl!

SHOES OF MY YOUTH

I saw almost all of my favorite shoes I wore as a kid at the Rosebowl market this weekend. I guess this makes me officially "vintage" which is slightly a bummer but, oh well - what can you do?

Always had some china flats. They have a weird, specific smell after you wear them for a while and they get dirty. You know what I mean? Kind of like musty socks and factory glue, or something like that? And remember running in them? No so comfy, basically like your feet smacking the ground directly. What, what?! LA GEAR...had these exact white ones and a pink pair, too.Reebok high tops. Mine were red. Apparently, the padded hi-top part does not age so well.Dime-store jellies. I can't even remember how many pairs of these I had, but a lot, I'm telling you. They smelled like Strawberry Shortcake a bit.Missing in attendance was the flat, pointy-toed, slingback from Esprit, circa 1985 or so. Why can I not find this anywhere? I had multiple color ways bought on sale from the Esprit Outlet, and I've scoured the internet and Ebay - can't even find a photo of one. Must have been a San Francisco thing, I guess.

Last but not least, these guys again...I love to stalk them. Amazing bean-pole guy and his lady friend. This dude is probably 6' 5" at least and maybe wears a size 26 pant (with like a 40" inseam?). I think you have to have balls for miles to rock the superglam platforms on top of that. Hey dude, you are kind of amazing.

UMBRELLA...ELLA...ELLA

Saw Rhianna the other day, had to get stalker on her ass. Note the paparazzi on the right. Jesus, is this what she has to deal with every time she eats a stupid sandwich? Being famous must totally suck.

ROSE BOWL, A BIT BACK

Been too busy, preoccupied - whatever - to upkeep this stuff, but love my Rose Bowl trips so here was the last one:
Typical - lugging taxidermy and a chair with a Jetta-type thing in the parking lot.
Efty, partner in crime, getting ready. XO!
Leather fringe embroidered pillow covers, quite bitchin.
Pink plastic chandelier, yes please.
Expensive motorcycle poster guys, taking a break from..oh, I don't know, nothing?
Mr. Peanut head, I love you but you're missing your skinny legs on that table which makes me feel weird.
SHADER BLADES for the baby bunny
Mesmerising beanpole and girlfriend
Piles. And piles and piles and piles of stuff.
I like buying stuff off the ground.
Mr Japan, I really loved your pants even though I don't know if you understood what I was trying to tell you. Best fabric ever.

NELSON

This is probably only interesting if you grew up in Berkeley, Ca, but here we go. There is a guy that has walked all around Berkeley for years and years, and he always wears this outfit. Black bomber with orange lining, levis, black converse. Since jr. high and high school, Becca and I have seen him, just walking, walking everywhere. We call him Nelson.
We call him Nelson and this is why. He is like a beautiful blond ghost that sweeps around town, always recognizable with that long hair blowing behind him. I always try to take pictures when I see him, but get freaked out that he'll see me...so they are always from behind. Here's the real Nelson, twins Mathew and Gunnar.

Have you seen them lately? Not as fun as in the 80'sthat's for sure.

CHIFFON BAG

I spotted and stalked this cute girl at the Rose Bowl flea market. She had a tote bag, made out of chiffon...I'm sure she made it herself. Tote bags are usually tough and you just cram all you stuff in there - they are a sturdy group of bags. So I liked the idea of making one out of chiffon - kind of impractical but stonger than you think and a very different fabrication than the norm...you go, cute girl! You get an A+ for originality. Sorry I was being creepy and taking secret photos of you. I liked your big velveet hair bow also, by the way. Very Sarah Crew.
