MADE-TO-ORDER VARSITY JACKETS

All varsity jackets are made-to-order, start to finish, by one person - me! I make the patterns, cut the materials, and sew each jacket in my Oakland, CA, shop. I love making jackets and put a lot of time and love into each one. A perfectly fitting, timelessly designed, well-made outerwear piece is an investment that will give back for years to come. I am a one-woman business, so please be patient and understand that I am not a sewing factory!
ORDERS: Orders are accepted on a first come, first serve basis via email (info@claflinthayer.com) or in person at the shop.
PRODUCTION TIME: Production time varies depending on work load but is generally between 6-10 weeks. Additional customization will extend the lead time. You will be given an ETA at the time of order confirmation.
FITTINGS: Fittings are done in-person using sample size jackets for reference. Body and sleeve length may be adjusted from the sample size to best fit you. *I can only take orders if you are able to come in for a fitting, I do not accept orders without a physical fitting.
PAYMENT: All orders require a 50% deposit a the time of order confirmation with the balance due upon completion. Shipped orders must be paid IN FULL prior to shipping.
All special orders are FINAL SALE. I cannot accept returns on custom made items. If something is not right with your jacket, please contact me via email at info@claflinthayer.com and include a detailed summary and photos of any issues. I will do my best to work with you!
PICK-UP POLICY: You will be notified by phone or email when your jacket is ready. In-person pick up and shipping are available. Completed orders will be held for up to 6 months; after that, they become property of the shop and you will lose your deposit.
GIFT CARDS: Are you looking for an awesome, unique, one-of-a-kind gift for someone special? You can pay a deposit and I’ll make you a handmade gift card good for the amount or type of jacket you specify. Once your special person opens the card, they can schedule a fitting and I’ll help them design their perfect jacket. Balance payment will be due once the jacket is finished. FIT & CONSTRUCTION DETAILS
The Claflin, Thayer & Co. varsity jacket is a classic outerwear design with an updated, modern fit. It features a more-tailored body and a less voluminous sleeve than most vintage varsity jackets. It nicely fits and flatters a wide range of body shapes and sizes.
The standard varsity jacket includes 2 welt front pockets, one interior chest pocket with custom name tag (fits cell phone), knit rib trim, painted-enamel brass snaps, and is fully lined. Additions or changes can be discussed.
Available in cropped (waist), standard (hip), or long (mid-thigh) lengths.
Sizing: Unisex XXS-XXL (based on men’s sizing). Sample sizes are available for fitting in the Oakland shop. Since jackets are made to order, I cannot accept returns for incorrect fit. Fit must be approved on customer via sample sizes prior to confirming order. See size chart below.
MATERIALS
Wool: 18-24oz. melton wool, various suppliers.
Leather: 2.5-3oz. full grain cowhide with a semi-aniline finish. This leather has a soft but sturdy hand-feel and shows the natural texture of the hide beautifully. Hair-on cowhides, metallic leather, and suede are also available…the possibilities are endless but additional charges will apply.
Knit rib trim: This acrylic/spandex blend is non-pilling, non-itchy, and has excellent stretch and recovery. Made in the USA.
Lining: Various lining options available for the body of the jacket - mostly cotton and rayon. You may also provide your own lining with approval. Sleeves are lined with Japanese Bemberg rayon.
Name tag: All orders include a gold-foil print leather name tag on the inside pocket (initials, first name, last name, nickname, etc.).
Custom additions: Chainstitching, embroidery, appliqué, and chenille letter options are available. Please note these some of these are outsourced to to other USA makers and will add additional production time and cost.
PRICING
Prices vary depending on the materials and custom details you chose. Below is the base price for each style which includes the following:
Body & sleeve length adjustment / 2 welt pockets / 1 interior chest pocket / custom name tag / knit rib trim / snap closure / full (in-stock) lining
Any other requests for custom features, materials, colors, or adjustments must be reviewed and approved and are subject to incur additional charges. I will provide a cost estimate specific to your request.
